6 Tips for Decorating Your Home on a Budget

Having a home with an interior that looks wonderful can be one of the best feelings in the world. Of course, it is even better when you know your home’s beauty does not have to cost a lot of money. Thus, I am providing you with six tips on how to make your house look great without spending too much money. It is highly possible that you already own everything necessary for each of these outfits!

Here are 6 Tips for Decorating Your Home on a Budget:

1. Wreaths are perhaps the easiest way to get into the holiday spirit. A wreath consists of any greens attached to a round object which you hang on your front door. They are easy and fast to make but they look so good! The most important part about Wreaths is choosing what kind of greens to use. Make sure they match the season and that you buy enough. Also, avoid using plastic ornaments and greenery because that will defeat the purpose of a natural wreath.

2. If your home does not have any shutters, adding them can be an inexpensive way to add color and depth to your home’s exterior. You don’t even need to paint them! You can just purchase them in different colors such as green or blue and attach 2-3 of them on each side of your windows for an instant pop of color! Also, it is important to pick out shutters that are suitable for the style of your house. For example, modern houses might look better with slim, modern-looking shutters while classic houses might look better with thicker and more dramatic shutters.

3. Making your own wall art is a great way to personalize your home without having to spend too much money on it. All you need are some images that you like, the proper material (easily found at any thrift store), and a frame! You can use this as an opportunity to go over old family photos and create something new out of them! Just make sure they fit into whatever style your house already has.

4. One of my favorite ways to decorate my home is by using plants and flowers as accent pieces throughout the house or in places where there isn’t an obvious focal point. This helps you save space because you don’t have to buy many pieces of furniture and the colors will be different everywhere you go in your house. All you need are plants or flowers that match your style/decor, soil to plant them in, and a pot for when they get big enough!

5. If you love decorating with candles but don’t want to shell out too much money on them, there is an easy way to make your own! You just need some lemon oil (you can find it at any hardware store), wax (candles or crayons work well), anything else you might want in the candle (such as color dye), and containers to put them in. The process would involve putting all of these things together in a pot over medium heat until they melt together into liquid. Once it is liquid enough, you can put them in containers and let it cool! This would be great for making scented candles without the worry of buying actually scented candles because they can get pretty expensive.

6. I like decorating my home with inexpensive art that I find at dollar stores or thrift stores, but this isn’t always an option for everyone because not everybody lives near a dollar store or thrift store. That is why I decided to show you another way on how to make your own wall art! All it takes are some old book pages (thrift stores are also good places to look for this since people give away books all the time), paint, tape, scissors, pencils/crayons/markers, and a frame. It is important to make sure that the paper you use for this is thicker/coarser because if it is too thin, your paint will go through it once you start painting! Just dip your paintbrush in some water and spread the pages apart so they are not sticking together. Then just paint them however you would like!

Once they dry, cut them into even shapes or rectangles (depending on the size of your frame) and tape these shapes onto something else- such as another piece of paper. I find it helpful to use some sort of ruler when taping pieces of paper together because it ensures that the seams will be straight. You can then color on these pieces with a pencil, crayons, or markers! Once you are done coloring, put everything back into the frame and there you go! A beautiful piece of art for your wall that didn’t cost more than $2-3.
